Biography
Miami, FL based Southern Soul & Blues Recording Artist Reggie Sears, is one of the "new generation" up-and-coming Southern Soul Superstars. Originally a Chicago Styled-Blues artist in the style of Otis Rush/Lonnie Brooks/Son Seals, Reggie paid his dues in South Florida before cutting 2 Blues c.d.s, "Transitions" in 2005 & "One Step Closer To The Blues(also released as Blues Power) in 2006, which were both unsuccessful sales wise due to lack of promotion, but did help him secure plenty of quality gigs. Both c.d.s are out-of-print & very hard to find. A bad management deal had him tied down for most of 2006. "Other than a few tours, 2006 was a very slow year for me. I was with a manager(name withheld) who wanted control of my music. I wanted to do my Soul-Blues, and my manager wanted me to do Contemporary 'Chicago' Blues. I Feel that the 'agreement' with my former manager stunted my growth musically as well as promotion-wise. Now I won't go into some of the other "business" details, but I'll just say as far as the music was concerned, it didn't work out." After months and months of legal disputes, Reggie was finally free of his "management agreement" & was in-control of his music, and he followed his dream & switched to Southern Soul music with the release of his first Southern Soul-Blues album, the self-produced & self-performed "Southern Soul, Florida Style" in late 2006. "I feel that the type of 'Blues' I was doing then really held my career back, but now I'm happier than I ever been doing Southern Soul music." Unfortunatly, due to lack of promotion, Southern Soul, Florida Style didn't make the splash he hoped it would. Although the album didn't reach multi-thousands of ears, everyone who heard the c.d. were raving & due to word of mouth the album became an underground favourite featuring the "hits" "Show Me What You're Workin' With, You You You, Hoodoo Woman, Clean Out Your Dresser & You Used To Be A Freak & marked him as an artist to watch, but didn't contain that big (commercial) hit to jump-start his career. In June of 2007 he released another self-produced Southern Soul disc titled "Get Up On It" which just like his predecessor became an underground hit featuring the underground hits "I'm A Dog, Moans Groans & Grunts, You're Slackin' Up In The Bedroom, You Don't Have To Be A Freak & Show Me What You Can Do and the title track". Unfortunatly, Redd Dawg Records marketed the album wrong & eager to jump-start his career he began writing & recording his followup "Sweet Thang." He released a single "Jody Stole My Freak & Gone" which proved to be Reggie's first "charting" "hit" and the B-side was a cover of Ronnie Lovejoy's "Sho' Wasn't Me" that was released Mid-July. Around the same time he did a session of Soul Ballads from the 60's & 70s. That session is yet to be released. By this time, he had found his sound & his style. He was happy being a Southern Soul-part-Contemporary-R&B-part-Blues man. Off of the success of "Jody Stole My Freak", Reggie started touring to promote his music more. Reggie's dynamic stage show complete with onstage dymanics won him a new legion of fans while satisfying his die-hards & due to word of mouth, people started taking notice of Reggie Sears. When he wasn't winning over audiences with his live shows, he was busy working on his new c.d. & producing recording artists. Sweet Thang dropped in late 2007 & was an instant smash, containing the hits "Somebody's After My Freak", "Pay To Play" "She Made A Freak Out Of Me" & "Sweet Thang." But it was the song "Dip My Dipper", which became his biggest hit. His c.d. Sweet Thang is currently gathering tons of rave reviews and also getting tons of airplay and Reggie is currently producing & writing a c.d. for Southern Soul Recording Artist "Jerome Towers" among other artists. In March 2008, Reggie will release the full-length Slow Jams Disc "In The Mood", which, at the time of this writing, will only be available at Reggie's Live Shows or through Digital Downloads only. He is currently working on his Southern Soul follow-up to Sweet Thang, which will be entitled "Smack It Up." Release Date Is Pending.
