With a box of LPs, a stack of 45s and a 60-watt stereo system that consisted of a turntable, receiver and 8-track player, Jay started playing music professionally in 1974 when he accepted the job of playing for the Woodland Volunteer Fire Department's Ladies Appreciation Dance for $25. He launched a Beach Music radio show in 1982 and, with the exception of a 20-year break from the airwaves, has been playing Beach Music now for going on 33 years.
